About David Simchock

David Simchock In early 2003, after many years in the corporate world and a well-deserved travel “sabbatical” that would be envied by even the most free-spirited nomad, David Simchock set off on a mission to establish himself among the industry’s top travel photographers with his creative venture, Vagabond Vistas Photography. Within months of its launch, David’s worldly images were being featured in major publications across the country, while the awards, accolades and media attention accumulated. A new path was being navigated, and all indications were that it was going to be an exciting one.

It wasn’t long before David was being asked to share his photographic insight and techniques with others, seamlessly integrating workshops and photo tours into the Vagabond Vistas list of services, eventually branding the company as a source for quality photography instruction. As Vagabond Vistas morphed in the direction of photography education, David expanded his repertoire of shooting services well beyond the “travel” spectrum under the banner of David Simchock Photography (“DSP” / www.DavidSimchock.com).

The demands being made on any travel photographer are great, requiring him to capture the spirit of a diverse range of subject matter, from landscapes to people to architecture and more. These very challenges are what led David to explore other facets of the photography art form, sending him on an ever-evolving journey of creativity.

DSP is a clear reflection of David’s consistent development as a top-grade artist. His mastery of the “keep it simple” philosophy that is followed by so many of the world’s greatest travel photographers has allowed him to transform his on-the-road practical approach to a wide range subject matter including concerts and festivals, “local” photojournalism, and various facets of commercial work (e.g., environmental portraiture, food, etc.).

David’s passion to see and experience the world is rivaled by his passion for music. He also loves to photograph live gigs. David was the recipient of two Independent Music Awards for “Concert Photography” in 2013, and he has two images nominated for IMAs in 2014. In May 2014, David and his partner, Beth, launched their own on-line music magazine titled Front Row Focus (www.FrontRowFocus.com), which will serve to highlight David’s music photography endeavors, while providing insight into and publicity for local musicians and beyond.

Consistent with his travel work ethic, David’s imagery remains candid and true-to-life as he continues to provide creative solutions to an increasing list of clients around the world. After eight fulfilling years of operation in the Northeast USA, David relocated his life, family and business to Appalachia and now calls Western North Carolina his home. David is a staff / volunteer photographer for the LEAF organization (www.theLEAF.org), and also contributes his services and artwork to other local non-profit efforts.

“David’s gifted sight of this world is so very healing, especially in these times.” Katherine Durbetaki, Princeton, NJ

What about Vagabond Vistas?

Though the breadth of DSP is a clear and intentional departure from the original, tight focus of Vagabond Vistas, David continues to grow his photography instructional offerings, particularly his popular Photo Tours, under the Vagabond Vistas brand.
